Spring "To Do List"

Outdoors:

  • Check gutters and clean out the spring debris. Empty any vessels around the yard and near the house that will hold water. Ensure splash blocks are elevated at the foundation. When water can flow out of the gutters and there is no standing water it will reduce the breeding areas for mosquitoes.
  • Check hose bibbs to insure that the water is not leaking from knob area or out of the wall beside the faucet.

Indoors:

  • Check the depth of attic insulation. Newer homes should have 8 1/2 inches in order to provide a R30 value. (this depends on type of insulation.) On older homes, adding additional insulation will reduce cooling costs.
  • For those with attic fans, it is time to insure that the fan is functioning and set at about 95 degrees. Some attic fans have a motor that should be oiled each spring. About 4 drops of a light weight oil is needed.
  • Evening temperatures and breezes can be enjoyed by having screening in good condition at some windows for cross ventilation.
  • Before it gets real hot, it is advisable to have your A/C unit serviced.

North Carolina Standards of Practice

In 1996 the State of N.C. established a set of minimal requirements that would help buyers better understand the condition of the property at the time of the home inspection. Our goal is to exceed the required standards. Those Standards and a Code of Ethics are attached below.
